How much does it cost to install an electric shower in Blackpool? We break down prices for 8.5kW to 10.5kW units, cable upgrades and what's included.

Electric Shower Installation Prices in Blackpool

Installing a new electric shower in Blackpool costs between £350 and £650 depending on the power rating and whether your existing wiring is adequate. A like-for-like replacement (same or lower kW rating, existing cable suitable) costs £350–£450. Upgrading to a higher kW shower with new cable run from the consumer unit costs £500–£650. These prices include the shower unit, isolation switch, cable, labour, testing and Part P certification. We supply and fit Mira, Triton and Aqualisa showers, or install customer-supplied units.

What kW Rating Do I Need?

Electric showers range from 7.5kW to 10.5kW. An 8.5kW shower is adequate for most households with average water pressure. A 9.5kW shower provides a stronger flow and is better for hard water areas. A 10.5kW shower gives the best performance but requires a 10mm or 16mm cable and a dedicated 45A or 50A breaker. Higher kW ratings need more powerful electrical supplies, which may require cable upgrades and consumer unit modifications, increasing the installation cost.

Does My Wiring Need Upgrading?

Electric showers need a dedicated circuit from the consumer unit with the correct cable size and breaker rating. An 8.5kW shower needs a 6mm cable and 40A breaker. A 9.5kW needs 10mm cable and 45A breaker. A 10.5kW needs 10mm or 16mm cable and 50A breaker. If your existing shower circuit is undersized for the new unit, we'll need to run new cable — usually from the consumer unit to the bathroom via the loft or under the floor. This adds £150–£250 to the installation cost.

Can I Install an Electric Shower Myself?

No. Electric shower installation is notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations, meaning it must be carried out by a registered electrician and notified to your local building control. DIY installation is illegal and will invalidate your home insurance. It's also dangerous — electric showers combine water and high-current electricity, and incorrect installation can cause electric shock or fire. Always use a NAPIT-registered electrician for shower installation.

How Long Does Installation Take?

A like-for-like electric shower replacement takes 3–4 hours. An installation requiring new cable from the consumer unit takes 5–7 hours. We'll isolate the power, remove the old shower, install the new unit and isolation switch, run any new cabling, test all circuits, and issue a Part P certificate. We also check your bathroom's zone compliance to ensure the shower is installed in the correct electrical zone. All work is guaranteed for 12 months.
