How much does it cost to install an EV charger at home in Lancashire? We break down prices for 7kW, 11kW and 22kW units, plus what affects the installation cost.

EV Charger Installation Prices in Lancashire

A standard 7kW home EV charger installation in Lancashire costs between £800 and £1,200 including the unit, installation, testing and certification. A basic 7kW tethered unit (cable attached) starts at £800. A 7kW socketed unit (use your own cable) is £850–£950. An 11kW three-phase unit for faster charging ranges from £1,200–£1,800. A 22kW unit, which requires a three-phase supply, costs £1,500–£2,500. These prices include a site survey, all materials, labour, DNO notification and an installation certificate.

What Affects the Installation Cost?

The biggest cost factor is the distance between your consumer unit and the charger location. A short run (under 5 metres) through an internal wall is straightforward. Longer cable runs, external routing, drilling through thick walls, or running cable under driveways all add time and materials. If your consumer unit lacks spare ways or needs upgrading, that's an additional £350–£600. Some properties also need an earth electrode installed, adding £150–£250.

Do I Need Planning Permission?

In most cases, no. Wall-mounted EV chargers on residential properties are permitted development. However, if your property is listed or in a conservation area, you should check with your local council. In Lancashire, this includes parts of Lytham St Annes, Garstang and certain areas of Lancaster. We can advise on this during your free site survey.

Which EV Charger Should I Choose?

For most Lancashire homeowners, a 7kW unit is sufficient. It adds roughly 30 miles of range per hour and can fully charge most EVs overnight. If you have a three-phase supply (common in newer builds and some larger properties), an 11kW or 22kW unit charges faster but costs more. Popular brands we install include Pod Point, Ohme, Zappi, EO Mini and Wallbox. We'll recommend the best option based on your vehicle, driving habits and property.

How Long Does Installation Take?

A standard 7kW installation takes 3–5 hours. We'll turn off your power for 2–3 hours while we install the dedicated circuit and connect the charger. Before we start, we conduct a free site survey to assess your consumer unit, cable route and any potential issues. We also handle all DNO (Distribution Network Operator) notifications, which are required for any new electrical load over 3.7kW.
