Your consumer unit (fuse box) is the nerve centre of your home's electrical system. When components fail — whether it's a blown fuse, a faulty MCB, a failed RCD or a damaged enclosure — it needs prompt attention from a qualified electrician. ESI Electrical repairs and replaces consumer unit components across Blackpool and Lancashire.
Individual MCBs (Miniature Circuit Breakers) and RCDs (Residual Current Devices) can fail over time, particularly in older consumer units. A failed MCB may refuse to reset after tripping, or may trip immediately when reset. A failed RCD may not trip when tested, or may trip randomly without a fault present. We replace faulty MCBs and RCDs with compatible units, restoring correct protection to your circuits.
Damaged consumer unit enclosures — cracked covers, broken doors or burnt plastic — are a fire and shock risk. Since 2016, all domestic consumer units must be housed in non-combustible (metal) enclosures. If your plastic consumer unit is damaged, we'll assess whether it can be repaired or whether a full replacement is the safer and more cost-effective option.
Sometimes the most cost-effective solution is a full consumer unit replacement rather than repairing an old unit. If your board is over 25 years old, uses rewirable fuses, lacks RCD protection or has multiple failing components, a replacement is likely the better investment. We'll give you an honest assessment and a clear quote for both options.
Yes — in most cases, individual MCBs can be replaced without replacing the entire consumer unit, provided the board is otherwise in good condition and the replacement MCB is compatible. We'll assess this when we attend.

“Ethan has done a great job. He's fitted a new light and extractor fan in a new wet room. Quick work and no mess. We would highly recommend him for any electrical work. 5*”
