Smoke & Heat Alarm Installation

Working smoke and heat alarms save lives. A mains-wired, interlinked alarm system — where all alarms sound together when one detects smoke or heat — gives you the best possible chance of escaping a fire safely. ESI Electrical installs mains-wired and interlinked smoke and heat alarms across Blackpool and Lancashire, to BS 5839 standards.

Smoke & Heat Alarm Requirements for Landlords in Blackpool

Since October 2015, all private landlords in England have been required to install at least one smoke alarm on every storey of their rental property and a carbon monoxide alarm in any room with a solid fuel appliance. From October 2022, this was extended to require carbon monoxide alarms in any room with a gas appliance too. We install mains-wired, interlinked alarms that meet and exceed these requirements, providing maximum protection for your tenants.

Mains-Wired vs Battery Alarms

Battery-powered alarms are better than nothing, but mains-wired alarms are significantly more reliable — they can't be disabled by removing a battery and don't fail due to a flat battery. Interlinked mains-wired alarms are the gold standard — when one alarm detects smoke or heat, all alarms in the property sound simultaneously, giving occupants maximum warning time regardless of where the fire starts.

Alarm Placement & BS 5839 Compliance

Correct placement of smoke and heat alarms is critical. Smoke alarms should be installed in hallways and landings (the escape routes), while heat alarms are recommended in kitchens where cooking fumes would cause nuisance tripping of a smoke alarm. We follow BS 5839 Part 6 guidance on alarm placement to ensure your system provides the best possible protection.
