A tripping RCD or MCB is your electrical system telling you something is wrong. Repeatedly resetting it without finding the cause is dangerous and could lead to a more serious fault or fire. ESI Electrical diagnoses and resolves tripping circuit issues across Blackpool and Lancashire, identifying the root cause and fixing it properly.
RCDs trip when they detect a leakage of current to earth — a sign of a fault somewhere on the circuit. Common causes include a faulty appliance plugged into the circuit, damaged cable insulation, moisture ingress into a socket or fitting, a failing RCD device itself, or a genuine wiring fault. We systematically test each circuit and appliance to identify the source of the trip.
MCBs (Miniature Circuit Breakers) trip either due to overload — too many appliances on one circuit — or a short circuit fault. We identify whether the trip is caused by overloading (in which case we may recommend an additional circuit) or a genuine fault (which we'll locate and repair). We never just reset and leave without understanding why it tripped.
Sometimes RCDs trip due to normal leakage currents from multiple appliances combining to exceed the RCD's threshold — known as nuisance tripping. This is more common with older RCDs and can be resolved by splitting circuits across multiple RCDs or upgrading to an RCBO board where each circuit has its own protection.
Yes — a repeatedly tripping RCD indicates a fault that needs investigation. While the RCD is doing its job by tripping, the underlying fault could worsen over time. Don't keep resetting it — call us to diagnose the cause.

“Ethan has done a great job. He's fitted a new light and extractor fan in a new wet room. Quick work and no mess. We would highly recommend him for any electrical work. 5*”
